Bob Timberlake, artist & designer
"The covered porch and rustic garden
are the two most traditional, natural settings for outdoor living."
Bob Timberlake is an internationally known realism artist from Lexington, North Carolina.
Famous for his landscape paintings and rustic furniture designs, Timberlake’s work is a touchstone
to the fading way of rural life in the fast-growing South and a testament to the value of time spent
on country porches and gardens.
As a child Timberlake learned the "language of wood" by the Piedmont master cabinetmaker, Fred Craver.
His early craftsman beginnings provided Timberlake with a unique perspective on his surroundings,
which later served as a strong foundation for his rural paintings. At the age of 33, Timberlake was
encouraged by artist and mentor Andrew Wyeth to devote himself to painting full-time. His first three
New York exhibitions sold out quickly, leading to numerous solo shows in museums across the country.
In 1976 President Jimmy Carter named Timberlake the official artist of Keep America Beautiful, an honor
he continues to fulfill today. As a painter Timberlake has also designed postage stamps for several
states as well as designing the first Christmas stamp for the US Postal Service.
In 1990, Timberlake launched a comprehensive furniture line based on his original designs and on favorite
antiques in his personal collection. The launch of the "World of Bob Timberlake" line by Lexington Furniture
Industries is still considered the most successful introduction in industry history. Today Bob Timberlake, Inc.
manages all art, retail and licensing affairs of the artist and has recently expanded into the outdoor
furnishings market through a partnership with Laneventure to develop a line that uses natural materials to
capture the nostalgia of Timberlake’s American country roots.
